Wheat and Barley were mentioned as "clustered grain" in the Holy Quran, Surah Al-An'am (6), Verse 99

 "And He is the One Who sends down water (rain) from the sky—causing all kinds of plants to grow—producing green stalks from which We bring forth clustered grain.
